The Galactic Government (United Galactic Government of the Milky Way) is a faction played by DeltaHalo as of 2020. It is involved in the on-going GC3, Interstellar and Byarli Ablaze campaigns.

Out-of-game information[]

When some Sprite Wars members first conceptualised the Interstellar Campaign, Deltahalo expressed his desire to play as the UNSC from Halo. Monstarules thought that was a good idea aaand proceeded to show that he had a "United Nations Space Command" that was actually the "Galactic Government", based off the protagonist faction from Brink of Annihilation. Delta saw the beautiful sprites and readily agreed to play as them. The GG went from a small sheet to three large ones, and then he learned that the faction's full name was the United Government of the Milky Way. Most if not all of the original sprites were based on the flash game Brink of Annihilation.

The sprite sheets and campaign profile are still in development.

In-game information[]

Foundation & Mission[]

The United Government of the Milky Way -UGGMW-, sometimes called the Galactic Government -GG for short- is a fledgling government that consists of several dozen planets. It was founded by a mixing of settlers and merchants for the purpose of securing trade, diplomacy, safety & inter-planetary access across the Milky Way.

Alignment[]

Lawful Neutral[]

The UGGMW is Lawful Neutral in most situations.

The government rarely intervenes in a negative or violent fashion if it's people & resources are left alone. They cannot legally intervene in combat unless someone asks for help or the UGGMW is provoked.

The Byarli Ablaze Campaign is one example: the UGGMW did not set foot on-world until the Ankanian Imperialis had seized one of the UGGMW's colonies.

The UGGMW follows "galactic law" and relies on a voting process to determine if they will send peacekeepers and marines into armed conflict.

Exceptions[]

The GG has a darker side where a small number of it's representatives seek allies, resources, territory and profit and will go to underhanded lengths to achieve their goals.

While the UGGMW is neutral in most conflicts, some representatives hire mercenaries to fullfill their desired outcome. Example: the Global 3 Campaign, where some politicians hired Fregata's mercenary army to seize the New World.

The GG's special forces branch, Pegasi, is a black operations unit. The majority of their work does not violate galactic law, but the upper echelons of the UGGMW have allowed them to perform tasks that were less than ethical.

Economics[]

Military Transaction Summary[]

As of 2020XX, the UGGMW's standardised currency, the Galactic Credit (GD) sits at 2 1/2 USD per credit. They spent 2,956,000 credits to acquire a Luna Motors Defensor 2 Main Battle Tank Luna pattern export variant from Nueva Tierra in order to mass produce a cheaper version for their own forces. A second purchase came with free plans for the VCE Gladiador AFV, raising the total price of the transaction to 5,912,000. The UGGMW then delivered a helmet pattern and technician assistance to Nueva Tierra in exchange for technician assistance and a free pattern for another AFV. At 895,000,000 credits, the UGGMW purchased one hundred fifty starships from Nueva Tierra. After the blueprints and construction were deciphered, they offered around a dozen companies construction contracts in order to produce them at a cheaper price.

Military Transaction Specifics[]

5,912,000 credits to Nueva Tierra subsidiaries for two Luna Motors Defensor 2 Main Battle Tank Luna models, it's pattern, and a VCE Gladiador AFV and pattern.

895,000,000 credits to Nueva Tierra subsidiaries for 150 starships.

Nueva Tierra exchanges pattern for a second AFV for a UGGMW pattern combat helmet, both parties provide technician assistance.

Current Territory[]

Reach and Onyx, two planets predominantly populated by human colonists -which have similarly named cousins on the other side of the Milky Way- are both thriving members of the Galactic Government.

Correigidor, Lexxus, Orlah, Holly, New Mars, Harket and Saxifrage are all member planets. The Globus System contains a great amount of the UGGMW's business interests. The Heartland System stands as the government's primary capital.

Territory on Byarli[]

On Byarli, peacekeeping and marine forces currently occupy a town and it's factorum.

Galactic Law[]

Galactic Law was a term coined by the Galactic Government to refer to their agreed upon laws, which were debated over the course of five galactic standard years before the initial set of laws were considered complete.

Sentient Rights[]

Galactic Law declares that sentients have certain rights and that those rights will be protected. Infringing upon those rights may result in armed conflict with the GG, as well as trade embargoes and sanctions.

Sentient Rights Exemption[]

A sentient race totally dedicated to violence and/or cannot register nor embrace the concept of a peaceful existence alongside other races has not yet been encountered, but protocols dictate such a race would have to be destroyed.

Clarification Regarding Violent Races[]

The GG has encountered individuals from Orks, Voltor and other races who do a passable job of interacting with their agents & citizens without any violence.

This gives the GG hope for those species, and reaffirms their belief in the vast majority of sentient species not being genetically doomed to commit acts of evil.

Cannibalism[]

Cannibalism was outlawed on the vast majority of UGMW-controlled worlds, and species that ate their kills raw were encouraged to hunt animals instead. This encouraged at least one Lyvek sub-culture to forfeit cannibalism in the face of less scarcity, fair hunting rights, limited charitable food distribution programs, and a lack of influence the Lyvek Conglomerate and Ishuda Pantheon.

Slavery[]

All slavery in the GG is outlawed with one exception:

A planet intending to amalgamate into the UGGMW may hold slaves for a maximum of three galactic standard years while they work towards reform. If the new member refuses to abolish slavery at the end of the three years, they're no longer a member and have to apply for ally status instead.

Rumours have circulated claiming that the UGGMW sends special forces to assassinate the upper and middle leadership in slavery organisations, and that the freed slaves are placed under witness protection.

Economy[]

The UGMW relies on numerous legal systems across different star systems to balance the rights of workers, labour unions, corporations, and the few government-owned businesses. The totality of their economic structure could be described as "capitalism heavily intermingled with democratic socialism", but there are variables. The result is imperfect and tends to differ depending the planet and population, but the majority of the government's citizenry live with access to healthy food, clean water and proper education.

Combat Strategy[]

Combined Arms[]

The UGMW prefers fighting alongside allied forces and working towards ensuring that local governments can militarily sustain themselves. To avoid the pitfalls of other peacekeeping organisations, the GG's regulations permit things such as peacekeepers and marines sharing ammunition with allied forces who are within five kilometers of an active combat zone.

Combat-related Organisation[]

The GG"s land, air and space branches are extremely diverse. Numerous species make up their roster, and each one, it's races, sexuality, genders and orientations are represented within reason.

Armed Forces[]

When the Galactic Government was birthed, unified militia, naval and military personnel from a number of it's planets assembled the first ever "peacekeeping" force to battle pirates and bandits throughout their territory. As more planets joined, the number of peacekeepers and support staff increased exponentially.

Peacekeepers[]

Peacekeepers excel at battling pirates, criminals, and at least some terrorist elements, however they are unused to battling organised hostile forces, and currently number fewer than one hundred thousand personnel.

Trailblazers[]

It surprises some to learn that the infamous Trailblazers are not marines. They are a profession within the peacekeeping branch that are tasked with clearing out flora and fauna with their beam weapons, which are also useful in full combat situations, and in burning through spaceships, fortifications and debris. They can also serve as rescue crews.

Galactic Marines[]

The GG created the Galactic Marines, around 250,000 armed soldiers, to fight on land, in the sea, in the sky and in space. They are used to battle hostile forces and secure victories, and not for police and patrol duties. The sole exception are their military police units.

Salamander Gorgons[]

An odd hybrid of peacekeeper and marine, the Salamander Gorgons are a jet-packing unit of shock troopers who can go from protecting aid packages to breaching house to house and violently clearing out enemy compounds in mere moments. While they do abide by galactic law per the armed forces' regulations, their work has been noted for it's exceptional speed and messy (albeit completely legal) brutality.

Gerhaan Marine Brigade[]

Most Gerhaans are pacifists, and very few serve in modern armies. The Galactic Government's Gerhaan population has been coaxed out of total pacifism and several hundred of them have formed a Marine Brigade, which consists of Gerhaan marines wielding powered spears and shotguns. The Gerhaan marines are often deployed in space or underwater, but have been deployed in diplomatic and bodyguard roles.

Armoured Branch[]

Serving the Peacekeepers and Marines, the Armoured Branch are the crew attached to both branches who repair and maintain vehicles. The UGGMW's methods of transport include tanks, IFVs, AFVs, MBTs, APCs and speeder bikes.

Lance Structure[]

Like many modern armies, the Galactic Government utilises the Lance formation for mech-related units. Unlike most armies, the UGMW's lances consist of four mechs, four combat vehicles and two infantry sections. Their lances are usually meant as support formations to relieve other units. This was essentially combining what were ordinarily two Augmented Lances in other armies.

Spacial Protection Force Branch[]

The SPF is a diverse branch comprised of the fleets from numerous member planets. The GG's actual navy contains fewer than 500,000 crew, but the bulk of the allied SPF has 3 million crew and many ships.

SPF ships are usually of a lower quality than the high tech ships in the GG's navy.

Pegasi Special Forces Branch[]

The GG's special forces, sent on classified missions to achieve the government's goals, legal or illegal.

Characters[]

WIP

Eirrel "Srakus" Edmonsegan[]

A part-human Chuusni, Eirrel belongs to a wealthy merchant family and believes he is guaranteeing them a better tomorrow by making the galaxy a safer place to live, one peacekeeping mission at a time. He enjoys big explosions, joking and conversation, but has a low tolerance for those who express a lack of discipline. He currently leads the Galactic Government forces on Byarli.

Noelver Thrame[]

Noelver's species is unknown. He is a Starshi currently leading the Galactic Marines' Salamander Gorgons unit. A marine through and through, Noelver is tough as nails in public but surprisingly soft spoken in private.

Rafa Valdez[]

A half-human who acquired the rank of Jun-i, Rafa is a language expert, close quarters specialist and researcher who handles weaponry composition for Chuusni Edmonsegan's forces. He is usually a kind but mildly cryptic individual, unless provoked. It usually takes a sentient rights violation to provoke him.

Torque[]

After preventing a civil war on Avalice, Torque joined the Galactic Government and rapidly rose through the ranks, becoming a Chuusni in the fledgling armed forces. Torque usually follows orders well enough, but is more of a do-it-yourself type. He's also a bit of a loose cannon.

History[]

Origins[]

Heartland[]

"Peace and profit." - Organisation for Economic Co-Operation motto

The Milky Way was caught between volatile galactic powers. Various empires and other factions struggled to maintain and expand their territories, and left their marks across many star systems.

The UGGMW's origin was in a single colony in the Heartland System. It's populace of merchants, settlers and refugees sought a new life. They were harassed by pirate gangs, and the ex-soldiers and ex-police in their colony formed a citizen militia to stave off attacks.

Seeking to create a hub for free trade that affected the entire Heartland, they created the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation (OECO, pronounced "Oh-Co"), a gathering of local representatives and merchant heads who sought to make the Heartland physically and financially prosperous.

OECO invested in starships, weapons, and tools for the protection of their colonies and merchant convoys. They purchased mercenary contracts for the purpose of training the militias into an effective guard force.

OECO drew in a larger membership and became the strongest power in the Heartland System, and a beacon of hope throughout the sector. Beings flocked to their banner, knowing that their lives and financial well-being were priorities for OECO.

As OECO grew in size, regulations were imposed to prevent full dominance by large scale corporations, and a mixture of capitalist and social democratic policies were generated to create a balance between seeking wealth and maintaining security.

Becoming the governing body for multiple planets and a liaison between several other governments, OECO's various representatives met to discuss the future of their organisation. A grand vision of a power which could save and raise the Milky Way into a peaceful golden age was imagined, the first draft of their constitution was created, and thus they were renamed the United Galactic Government of the Milky Way.

Keeping Peace[]

The UGGMW was largely a democracy, and in the face of a number of pirate and terrorist attacks which rocked multiple new colonies, it's representatives agreed to pay additional taxes to transform part of their planetary defence forces into a unified peacekeeping force.

The first peacekeepers were more crude than the standardised force seen in 20XX, but their efforts were still effective. Months of aid missions and intense fighting pacified worlds and quelled radical ideologies.

Global 2 Campaign[]

In the aftermath of the Second Interstellar War, Earth was faced with severe drought, famine and resource depletion. This resulted in many earthlings, human and otherwise, forsaking their home planet in search of prosperous life on other worlds. The United Government of the Milky Way welcomed many refugees, immigrants and temporary visitors from Earth and the Solar System during this tumultuous time.

Global 3 Campaign[]

Entry[]

The UGMW discovered that the Liberalis Terrae, The Syndicate, the Republic of Mechvaraa and several other factions were vying for territory on an unnamed fledgling planet whose population was subjected to horrifying bandit raids. Their government released a statement condemning the actions of the human supremacist Liberalis Terrae, but they did not intervene in an official capacity.

Three politicians collaborated to secretly hire Fragata Industries to send their PMC and affiliated groups to train local militias and unify the scattered national guard to wage an effective war against banditry, hostile factions and aggressive wildlife. Fregata and it's affiliates have been offered territory on the planet if they can secure it and turn the world over to the Galactic Government for safekeeping, ensuring the government's economical control.

Fregata Arrives[]

Fregata Industries-hired PMC forces created a forward operating base and began battling bandits and wildlife while training a small unit combining militia and national guard. A PMC fireteam retrieved the MSDBF archives, followed orders and had them destroyed.

Byarli Ablaze Campaign[]

Colony Lost[]

A colony on the edge of the UGMW's border was subject to an infestation of the Ruinous Powers, causing guardsmen from the Ankanian Federation to intervene. They killed the small number of peacekeepers stationed there, even executing the prisoners, and claimed the planet for the Federation. Non-humans were killed or deported. This caused tension between the two factions.

A vote was arranged and led to the allowance for creating several hundred mechs and rapidly training pilots to use them.

Byarli[]

Byarli was on the Imperialis side of the GG-AI border. When the Galactic Government received reports of extremely heavy fighting from more than a dozen factions on the planet, they gathered representatives for a vote. 450 voted in favour of sending armed forces to secure the planet and assist the civilian population, and only 125 representatives voted against the notion.

Peacekeeping, marine, and armed forces were sent to secure mines, factories, science facilities, and civilian population centres. Pegasi Special Forces was secretly dispatched to eliminate enemy leaders.

Skirmish with Imperialis[]

When a group of peacekeepers discovered that some Imperialis guardsmen intended to execute civilians for their failure to prevent the creation of Unspoken graffiti on a city wall, a firefight broke out, resulting in the deaths or injuries of four peacekeepers and at least two guardsman and an officer. A tense ceasefire was enacted.

Encountering the Orks[]

An initial foray into the jungles by peacekeeper forces resulted in a hostile encounter with a group of Orks, who suffered several casualties before killing half a section of peacekeepers and forcing the remainder to retreat.

Encountering the Covenant[]

Another patrol into the jungles discovered a Sangheili-led Covenant lance that had killed Russian and ADG soldiers. When fired upon, the peacekeepers and their IFVs returned fire, destroying the lance. Several peacekeepers were killed. A trio of scared Russian survivors then attacked the patrol, killing more peacekeepers. GG troops returned fire, forcing the Russians to retreat to the Russo-ADG FOB.

Attack on the Russo-ADG FOB[]

Regrouping with other patrols, the peacekeepers, bolstered by tanks and a marine section, attacked the Russo-ADG forward operating base. The first wave caught the newfound foe off guard, but their offensive was stagnated by the time the second wave advanced. Russian fighter jets arrived and destroyed a number of GG vehicles as ADG and Spetsnaz reinforcements arrived. The arrival of at least one lance led by call-sign Moondancer allowed for the GalGov to initiate a full retreat. As they exited the area, unable to collect their dead, they placed the bodies of the Russo-ADG killed by the Covenant in orderly fashion, on open ground, with service tags and identification clearly visible so that the Russians and Global Defense Alliance could collect them.

Current List of Alliances & Embargoes[]

Ankanian Imperialis[]

The Imperialis recently occupied a UGGMW colony due to a Ruinous Powers outbreak, and there was a small skirmish between them in a city on Byarli. A ceasefire is in effect.

A majority statement by UGGMW representatives condemned the Ankanian Imperialis's xenophobia.

Liberalis Terrae[]

An embargo against all trade with the Liberalis Terrae is in effect.

A majority-backed statement by the UGGMW claims the Liberalis Terrae's policies are "grossly xenophobic and detrimental to social capital".

Terms for the sanctions to be lifted are for the LT to withdraw from the New World, as the UGGMW views their attempted occupation of the planet to be unlawful.

Kronen Empire[]

The Kronen Empire's policies regarding non-human sentient beings are stricter and more destructive than the Liberalis Terrae's and Ankanian Imperialis's. Kronen and UGGMW forces have yet to meet in combat, but are essentially at war.

Torridia[]

The nation of Torridia is undergoing several reforms per the UGGMW's recommendation and is an allied world.

Nueva Tierra[]

NT and the UGGMW are close economic partners, and a future military alliance is being considered.
